The TWA Bestseller List

Twenty-six-year-old Serena Williams is working on her autobiography, which will focus on her inspirational rise, fall and re-rise (don't use that word at home) in the rankings.
Not that Serena's story isn't interesting. It almost seems like she got back to No. 1 just to tack an ending onto that story, though, doesn't it? And really, isn't she kind of young for a book? I know James Blake has a book out already, but Blake also had a life- and career-threatening injury. It's hard for me to think Serena's going to have an uneventful rest of her life.
Regardless, her announcement came with the usual copycat flurry of book deals. A few to put on that library list:

1. My Meteoric Rise to No. 1 ... from No. 2 by Roger Federer
2. The Three Faces of Nole by Novak Djokovic
3. Serena, Serena, Serena! by Venus Williams
4. .... And All I Got Is This Lousy T-Shirt by Andy Roddick
5. Calm Under Pressure by Marat Safin
6. Yes, There's a Cast for That by Jelena Jankovic
7. Make Mine a Double ... Fault by Elena Dementieva
8. "No?" Means "Yes." by Rafael Nadal

No means yes is hilarious!

You're right, it probably is a little early for a book deal. Still at least she has led a vibrant, eventful and sometimes controversial sporting life. Along with her sister, she has transformed the women's game, and is probably one of the most important players of this generation.
What really gets up my nose is hearing about bios/bookdeals from 22 year olds (or even younger) who haven't yet led what may be termed a 'life' (let alone one that is anywhere near as eventful).

Welcome oryem! That one's my favorite, too.
And welcome, topspin! No arguments on Serena's effect on tennis. But her story will be worth a lot when she quits tennis, too. What's the rush?

I would totally go and buy 'No Means Yes' and 'My Meteoric Rise to #1... from #2' the second they came out. :)

Yeah, Jodi, I'm thinking Nadal's book should come with some sort of dictionary that explains what he means when he says Andy Murray has a big hands. That one still perplexes me.

Oh god. This is hilarious. Knee-slapping, abs crunchingly funny.

I like Safin's and Nadal's :)

And also to define what he meeds by the words 'comportation' and 'respectus.'

Welcome, babs! OMG, did he really ever say respectus, Jodi?

Thank you for welcoming me naf! I think one of the reasons for the book deal now is to capitalise on Serena's fame at the moment because lets face it tennis is a relatively short career and it's not the most popular sport in the world. Once players retire they are pretty much forgotten by non tennis fanatics. I think the plan now is to capitalise on the fact that she is well known to not only tennis fans but probably random people on the street who may be interested in what she has to say. That said, I also think she has pretty much done everything there is to be done in tennis. I mean she's gone from no 1 to no 81 and back to no 1 again- whether she writes about that now or later its a pretty amazing story. It would be better than Andy Murray's bio I would think:)

Topspin, we kid Nadal because we love him. And Oryem, hey! I don't think Serena will ever be forgotten, and I am sure she'll find something to do other than tennis. :)
